History Tours

For more than a century, the Venus Battery crushed gold bearing quartz from mines across North Queensland and is a remarkable survivor of those colonial goldrush days. The Battery is fully heritage listed. It is an icon of national cultural significance and a tour through its workings is a must-do for those visiting the Charters Towers region.
Gold Panning at the Miners Cottage
Try your luck Gold Panning at the historic Miners Cottage! Recreate the early days of the gold-rush long ago. Learn how to find real gold! Pan gravel and river sand sourced from local creeks and old mine tailings! Keep any gold you find! No guarantees – but you will learn how it was done.
Our educational tours in Charters Towers can be done from 30 minutes right through to 1.5 hours, and can be done at any age! Maximum group size per tour is 30.

About our Education Programs
Immerse your students into Queensland’s history, where they will learn both the true crime stories that shaped our River City, and the Haunted History of Brisbane’s spookiest locations.
We offer tailored guided tour packages to suit a range of groups including primary schools*, secondary schools, universities and after school care services*. Our experiences will be sure to excite and educate your students, and are led by experienced, engaging and knowledgeable tour guides.
*Please note; for some experiences students must be 10 years and over.
