Established 30 years ago by retired prospector Alan Silverwood, the Miners Cottage is a “must-do” of the Towers, located right in the heart of town, a short walk from the Visitor Information Centre.

- 1 hr 15 mins unique experience combining local history with learning how pan for real gold. Includes gold pan hire, Mining Rights Certificate and one on one, hands-on teaching.
- Family – 1.5 scoops of sand to pan + 2 pans + miners license certificate
- Individuals – 1 scoop of sand + 1 pan + miners license certificate
- Pan gravel and river sand sourced from local creeks and old mine tailings.
- Keep any gold you find! No guarantees – but you will learn how it was done.
- Each public panning session is limited to 10 people. Bookings essential.

- Free public car parking outside the Miners Cottage is available on Deane Street, Charters Towers.

Tours must be booked separately on our website (in any order) using the codes supplied in your confirmation email. Codes are valid for 7 days.

ARE THERE TOILETS AVAILABLE?
There is no toilet facility on site at the Miners Cottage – public toilets can be found at the shopping centre across the road.
IS THERE DISABILITY ACCESS?
Please contact us about disability access as both experiences include some stairs, uneven surfaces and outside pathways. By contacting us we may be able to cater for your needs.
CAN I TAKE PHOTOS & VIDEOS?
Still photography is allowed when guides are not talking. Please be mindful of your camera flash as to not shine it in other people’s faces.
Strictly no video or audio filming/recording is allowed at any time.
IS THERE A DRESS CODE?
Yes. All customers must be wearing flat, enclosed shoes. Shoes must be worn at all times.
Please keep in mind that clothing may come into contact with dirt & water during Gold Panning.
Be sure to bring a water bottle and exercise caution with sun safety.
WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS?
Tours will still run in the rain. If the weather looks bad, bring some wet weather gear, and enjoy the tour.
Tours will only be cancelled if conditions become dangerous. Our Bookings Coordinator will contact you to notify you of cancellation and rescheduling your tour.
